Afghanistan forces reportedly suffering high casualties as U.S. support fades - Harrisburg National Security | Examiner.com:
Bloomberg reported on May 3 that the Taliban are inflicting “about 70 percent” more casualties on Afghan armed forces this year over last year. USA Today reported on the same story on May 3 as well, noting that the U.S.-led effort in Afghanistan changed the “mission this year from combat to advising and assisting Afghan forces.” The changed mission has also resulted in a reduced number of U.S. troops.
Both Bloomberg and USA Today reported that President Obama plans to reduce U.S. forces even further to a very small contingent by 2016, with Bloomberg specifying that number to be 1500.
