Top Woman Soldier To Quit


Depressing picture or what?

With the Jubilee, The Olympics, Wimbledon and Armed Forces Day all coming along at once, those who bought plastic Union Jack flags this summer are getting their money's worth. Brigadier Moffat picked Armed Forces Day to announce that she was giving up the British Army as a bad job. Two months ago she was telling young people that there had never been a better time to join the armed forces. Hmmmm.

The timing of her departure is a blow to ministers as they prepare to this week announce controversial plans to reduce the Army’s manpower from 100,000 soldiers to 82,000 by 2020. Brigadier Moffat, 50, stunned colleagues by announcing she was stepping down as the Armed Forces’ head of pay and strategic manning at the Ministry of Defence.
Another high-ranking officer, Brigadier Justin Maciejewski, the director of combat, is expected to follow suit by seeking voluntary redundancy
