Although the government in Kabul affirms the region of Helmand is holding, local sources are adamant that it is being lost, piece by piece, as troops are swelling the ranks of the Taliban from Pakistan.
The fighting season is starting, as the weather is getting warmer and the opium harvest is about to begin. It is the lucrative harvest which is drawing the Taliban, more than anything else. That is why thousands of NATO troops died to gain the province.
