Taliban fighters now occupy part of the bazaar in the Sangin district and have their sights set on seizing the district’s main government compound, said Hajji Mohammad Attal, who is head of the local provincial council. The Sangin district had long been the one of the deadliest places in Afghanistan for the British and American troops who fought for years to push out the Taliban.
