The trouble in Afghanistan - Livemint: The newly appointed Afghan defence minister Masoom Stanekzai recently met some low-ranking Taliban leaders in Urumqi, China. In the past few weeks, the Taliban also met Afghan officials in Norway, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. Not surprisingly, these meetings have been inconclusive.
Intensifying internecine rivalries within the Taliban have seen some cadres shifting their loyalty to the new global terror phenomenon—the Islamic State (IS).
