Bedlam in Kabul

The Statesman: Bedlam in Kabul: The assault on Parliament happened during a legislators’ meeting to consider who the next defence minister could be. By accident or design, the Taliban scuttled a parliamentary session convened to decide on a crucial portfolio in an almost relentlessly turbulent land, where the appointment of the Defence minister must of necessity be ratified by Parliament. The nature of the outrage does suggest that the Taliban was privy to the fact that Parliament was in session and why.
