Note - Obama's delusionism speaks for itself. But the objectives of the war - to disable the Taliban and the opium trade - have clearly failed. The PR nonsense about women's rights and female education was conjured up (and just as quickly abandoned) when things started to go badly wrong a few years into the debacle.

More than 4,000 Afghan soldiers and police have been killed in the past 12 months. Insurgent groups have occupied large swathes of Afghanistan, raising fears that Islamic radicals may reclaim control when the US and its allies exit.
