The Taliban played the long game in Afghanistan and are just waiting to pounce. A disaster of course. But for 13 years they have been confronted by an occupying force led by boneheads. The comments of ordinary squaddies and their families about the waste are in stark contrast to the politicians', generals and securocrats' rose-tinted assessments.
