Military officials say a marine from Texas has been killed in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense announced Thursday that Sgt. Thomas Z. Spitzer, 23, of New Braunfels died Wednesday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province.
Spitzer was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, in Twentynine Palms, California.
