War On Terror - Rich Man's War, Poor Mans Fight

Embittered Confederate soldiers used to describe service in the American Civil War as a rich man's war but a poor man's fight. While speculators, rich landowners and carpetbaggers made profits in the war years, poor farm boys were being slaughtered. I see an analogy with the multi-tentacled US direct and proxy war 'strategy' in Arab countries and the role of the American
Military-Industrial Complex. If you look at the US Military casualties lists from Afghanistan, and earlier in Iraq, there is a preponderance of hispanic names and also of dead soldiers from the lower ranks. Economic recruits. 'Specialists' they are called by the Pentagon although they only appear to specialise as cannon fodder. These guys are the poor hispanics from the projects across the US. The modern equivalent of the poor farmers at Vicksburg and Atlanta.
