US soldier to face relatives of slain Afghan villagers - Khaama Press (KP) | Afghan Online Newspaper:
"Staff Sgt. Robert Bales who killed at least 16 villagers, mostly women and children, pleaded guilty in June to avoid capital punishment. He is due to appear in the court on Tuesday for sentencing hearing, in the presence of five jurors who are going to determine if his life sentence offers a chance of parole.
This will be the first time the villagers face Robert Bales since the attack. He has not appologized for the incident so far, and there are reports of lack of remorse by soldier after a recording of the soldier laughing with his wife was obtained by prosectors.
Lt. Col. Rob Stelle quoted by Associated Press told the judge, “It certainly goes to evidence in aggravation, the attitude of lack of remorse.”"
