Bingo. This is another proxy war. KSA is un/officially the secret fist behind the back of NATO. This is all about encroachment, regime change, and to further the Sunni/Shia divide. Lebanon is hearing foot steps.
Not sure who is to be trusted, James. The 'rebels' are even less coherent than in Libya. They mean the best for their people but there is a bigger arena in which this is being played as you know. I have no admiration for Assad but if he has learned nothing he will at least remember the example of his ruthless father. If the price of staying in power and keeping the Israeli/Western axis out is a few massacres, unfortunately Assad will exact the price and the innocent victims will pay it in their thousands as in Hama in 1982. NATO is shown for what it is in the Syrian context. They are inept whether they go in (cf Afghanistan, Libya) or stay out.

I support the arming of Syrian revolutuonaries but the KSA/GCC are not to be trusted throughout this revolutionary cycle.
