You cannot blame this whole thing on the troubled sergeant. The fact of the matter is, the Army personnel assignment policy and the flawed COIN doctrines are to blame for this hideous incident.
I mean, yeah, Bales was fucked up, but he served his country honorably. The Army should have spotted the red flags beforehand.
