Difficult to say after 10 years of war that anti-American opinion is spiking higher than usual, but it does seems that way. Although the WH/Pentagon lacked any pragmatic recourse to this event, U.S. officials should have realized the false nature of ostentatious apologies. They simply went from one extreme to the other.
