Anything in Afghanistan is open to fabrication in Washington. The Obama administration desperately wants to appease an angry public, but refused to admit that public opinion was a factor in withdrawing. This rhetoric has everything to do with "withdrawing from a position of strength," when the U.S. and NATO are withdrawing from a stalemate at best - eventual defeat at worst.
