Pakistan's parliament has demanded an end to American drone strikes and called for an independent inquiry into the US special forces raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
The message came after a 10-hour meeting in Islamabad in which officials debated the "situation arising from unilateral US action in Abbottabad".
The parliament described the continued strikes as "unacceptable".
In a resolution, it said: "Such drone attacks must be stopped forthwith, failing which the government will be constrained to consider taking necessary steps including withdrawal of (the) transit facility allowed to Nato." pp
Hard to tell how much of this is for show. Although Pakistan's anti-American sentiment is pure, some of this anger is clearly manufactured. Politically jockeying as well, and everyone pointing fingers.
ReplyDeleteTo the point, I cannot envision a halt to drone strikes.
No, nor do I, James. But I Intend to continue in my small way to record when they go wrong whenever I can. Which is all too often. The call by General Richards today for NATO to 'widen the sphere of targets' in Libya is precursor and further opportunity for the droneheads to wreak their chaos.
