Women's Rights In Afghanistan

When it became clear that the NATO mission in Afghanistan was going down into the sand, like all other foreign missions before it (it took a while for it to dawn on ISAF) they changed the narrative. The mission wasn't about 'clearing up the Taliban' (some hope) or the creation of a 'New Afghanistan' Iraq-style(!). It was suddenly about women's rights and girls' education. This piece shows up just what a sham all of that was. If women are treated like this in Kabul today, you can imagine how they are treated in the rural and mountain hinterlands. The idea that NATO could or would do anything about that is just one of the lies they will leave behind them (along with most of their interpreters) as they speed up the dash for the exits. LINK
