  2. Good site. I got the lead from Tom Ricks blog but Wired were onto this very quickly. The Petraeus spin is buffalo shit, needless to say.

  3. I expected Petraeus's current level of violence. I think he knows that he can't repeat the "Iraqi Awakening" with Afghanistan's tribal complex. He also seemed more opposed to Taliban negotiations than McChrystal, eager to continue the occupation, and thus willing to lead by force. And as this article states, the U.S. government is now engaged in an active campaign to destroy property in order to drive Afghans into the government. This strategy is flawed for many reasons, chiefly because Petraeus himself has no faith in Karzai.

Short-sightedness masquerading as foresight - easier to do with Petraeus's political clout and media adulation.

  4. Karzai going to Russia and making more deals must have Patreus wondering.
I agree he came in knowing that there
    would be no Afghan Awakening.

Patreus is using old Nam tactics.
They did not work then and they will not work now.
It only turns the inhabitants further toward the Taliban.

When do the snows melt in Afghanistan?
It is almost as if he has a seasonal strategy.

  5. What is this war all for? Is it for the people or for those individuals who employ violence without reason? Why did the counterinsurgency go as far as wiping out a village? I don't believe that there were no civilians harmed or killed in the process. In fact, what happened to Tarok Kolache has already destroyed the lives of civilians.

  6. Mark,
Of course civilians were killed as they are virtually daily in Afghanistan and the Nato spin to minimise it is literally daily. It is trying to mark these deaths, in a small way, that is the main purpose of this and the Wolves In The City sites. I went over to your site and was very impressed. I will be back there.
    Best
