Afghanistan War 'Crucial' In 2011 - Liam Fox

Liam Fox said it was crucial that NATO succeed in Afghanistan in 2011. Crucial, hm? And the last nine years of abject and bloody failure? Perhaps not so crucial. Perhaps better not mentioned at all, eh, Foxy?

  1. 2010, 2011, and 2012 are all crucial. So is 2013, 2014, and 2016. And maybe 2020.

With the White House and Pentagon still opposed to negotiation with the Taliban - Washington wants surrender, not settlement - that's how the trend will go.

The Taliban didn't surrender even after the initial U.S.-led invasion nearly annihilated its ranks.

  2. Political expediency, as always, will drive whatever cork in the stream politician is 'driving' US policy. A pseudo 'mission accomplished' position is being polished up for public consumption with 2 years IMO, James. Nato are building the Taliban up by the day by their incompetence of course. The White House, not for the first time, will be at the head of 'Coalition of the Leaving' sooner rather than later I think.
